Un Production Gap Report Shows Irish Government Plan To Develop Lng Infrastructure And Unsustainable Data Centres Incompatible With Climate Goals

People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith has said that the UN Production Gap report shows that the Irish government’s plan to develop LNG infrastructure and unsustainable data centres is “completely incompatible with Ireland’s climate goals”.

She said that the government needed to legislate to ban the building of LNG infrastructure and further data centres in order to have any chance of Ireland meeting its emission reductions targets.

She said: “The UN Production Gap report makes for startling reading. It shows that the worlds production of fossil fuels is entirely out of sync with the needs of the climate.

“This report shows that the Irish government cannot allow for the building of LNG infrastructure or any more data centres in this country as they are completely incompatible with our climate goals. The government, having opposed a People Before Profit bill to ban the development of LNG and further data centres, need to immediately legislate to stop any form of LNG importation or construction of LNG facilities in this country and any more data centres.

“This is a hugely important issue in the build up to the COP which our government need to address.”
