People Before Profit support student protester facing expulsion

Last Tuesday on Budget Day students from Moyle Park and Colaiste Brid in Clondalkin area organised a walk out of their classes in protest to the educational cuts in Tuesday’s Budget. The students who managed to leave the school then mounted a picket outside Fianna Fail Chief Whip John Curran’s office in the centre of the town. The picket lasted for one hour, then the students of Colaiste Brid went in solidarity to Moyle Park College so the students of that school could join them.

People Before Profit Alliance Councillor Gino Kenny (pictured above)who was at the protest said, "This was a great protest by the students of both schools. These students like the students in France a few weeks ago are not just fighting against cutbacks that will directly effect them when they enter third level education, but the cutbacks that will effect us all. They have shown leadership, while the Union leadership in Ireland, when workers are crying out for leadership, hide and scurry behind the blanket they call Social Partnership. "

Since the walk out Shane Donnelly a student in Moyle Park is now been threatened with expulsion from the school for organising the protest.

His fellow students have now organised a protest outside Moyle Park College tomorrow, Friday 10th December, 2pm to coincide with Shane’s board of Management hearing.
