People Before Profit Seek Tds Signatures For Motion To Adopt Amnesty Report Indicting Israel For Apartheid And Crimes Against Humanity

Government guilty of gross double standards if it fails to condemn Israeli crimes and apartheid

People Before Profit has today circulated a Dáil motion to all TD’s calling for sanctions on and indicting Israel following the Amnesty International Report on crimes against humanity and apartheid against the Palestinians.

The motion was circulated in advance of tonight’s Dáil debate on the Amnesty report. Deputy Boyd Barrett, as a member of the Dáil Business Committee, had requested the Dáil debate to discuss Amnesty’s recent report on Israel’s system of apartheid and crimes against humanity.

PBP are seeking the signatures of all TDs in the Dáil in support of the motion.

Richard Boyd Barrett TD will make reference to the motion (see below) in his contribution to the Amnesty International Report debate in the Dáil this evening.

Deputy Boyd Barrett said that the Irish government had “rightly condemned Vladimir Putin for his crimes against humanity in Ukraine” but would be “guilty of gross double standards if it fails to condemn Israel for crimes against humanity and apartheid against Palestinians, and to implement sanctions following the amnesty report.”

Richard Boyd Barrett TD said: “We have today circulated a motion to all TDs in the Dáil seeking their support for our motion which calls on the government to indict and sanction Israel for apartheid and crimes against humanity which was recently recommended in the Amnesty International Report: Israel’s Apartheid against Palestinians: Cruel system of domination and crime against humanity.

“We are asking all TDs in Leinster House to sign this motion and send a clear message to the government that we cannot allow Israel’s blatant crimes against the Palestinians go unpunished. Israel is flagrantly breaching international law and committing the despicable crimes of apartheid and crimes against humanity on the Palestinians along with illegal settlement expansion, home demolitions, the forcible transfer and the expulsion of Palestinians from Israel and more.

“We are calling for our government to fully endorse the report’s findings and recommendations including the implementation of sanctions against Israeli officials, an arms embargo on Israel and referral of Israel to the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.

“It would be gross hypocrisy if our government condemns and sanctions the warmongering and crimes against humanity of Putin in Ukraine, but fails to do the same for the crimes against humanity being committed by Israel against Palestinians, day in day out for decades.”

“We must convey our support and solidarity for the people of Palestine who have been despicably treated by Israel for too long.”
