Speaking after the meeting Carroll commended their “inspiring fightback” for fair pay and better conditions: “It was my pleasure to welcome striking workers to my constituency office this morning and I want to commend them for their struggles in factories in West Belfast and Larne. Their fightback for fair pay has been an inspiring example of how workers can collectively stand up for themselves against greedy profiteering and corporations who deny basic rights. I have been proud to stand with these workers throughout their dispute, and I call on management to treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve going forward.”
“The actions of the Caterpillar company have been typically disgraceful during this strike ─ denying fair pay, refusing to engage with Union reps and spending a small fortune on strike breaking. We know Caterpillar doesn’t give a damn about human rights given its treatment of activists within the ongoing illegal occupation of Palestine. But the company’s actions over recent months have shown that their flagrant disrespect for equality also extends to the workers and trade unionists here, who bring in extortionate profits for wealthy shareholders. The cost of living is soaring, and workers need inflation busting pay rises to cope with rising energy and food costs. Solidarity to these workers and UNITE the union.”
