People Before Profit has said that they have no confidence in the government, that the government must go and that there should be a motion of no confidence to that effect, which they have been actively considering putting forward.
The move comes following the government losing its Dáil majority over the Mica redress scheme.
The party said that the government’s failure to deliver an emergency cost of living package before the summer recess along with the government’s clear inability to prevent the housing crisis from getting worse were clear reasons why the government should be relieved of its duties.
Richard Boyd Barrett TD said: “The government has now lost its majority in the Dáil after failing to deliver the 100% Mica redress demanded by affected homeowners. People Before Profit believe there should be a motion of no confidence against this government because of their failure to deliver a cost of living package before the summer recess. People are being hammered by the cost of living crisis and yet the government is happy enough to head off for the summer recess without delivering a package of measures to protect people.
Paul Murphy TD said: “It is clear that this government has to go. From the shockingly bad handling of the cost of living crisis to the ever-worsening disaster that we can see with the housing crisis, it is clear that this government must be removed from office. They have stood over ballooning profits for corporate landlords, energy companies and food companies while working people suffer. Their commitment to the market means they have no solutions or will to tackle the obscene housing and homelessness situation and are completely opposed to the socialist measures needed to protect people from the cost of living and inflation crisis.”
