The political establishment wants to drag this country closer to NATO. They already have signed us up to Partnership for Peace, which is for closer cooperation with NATO.
They have agreed to massively increase defence spending in line with NATO’s demand that accounts for 2% of GDP.
In Ireland’s case, it's worse because the GDP is artificially inflated. So it is even more absurd to agree to a big increase in defence spending when we need to build so many houses.
People Before Profit wants the Irish government to pursue a policy of active neutrality. By this, we mean one which opposes the colonial ambitions of the big powers who seek to carve up the world into ‘spheres of influence’.
There is growing talk of preparing for war among the EU and US elites. They see the rise of China as a major threat and are increasing military spending.
People Before Profit believes that Ireland must stay independent of the Western alliance, China or Russia. We should not be dragged into military conflict where working-class men and women have to die for foreign empires.
Active neutrality also means not allowing US troops to use Shannon Airport and ensuring that munitions are not flown through Irish airspace to help Israel’s genocidal war.
A truly neutral country would immediately stop the Central Bank from facilitating the sale of Israeli war bonds. These bonds are raising funds for bombs which murder and main.
Voting for People Before Profit No. 1 sends a clear message: we want to keep and expand our neutrality.
