People Before Profit leader Richard Boyd Barrett TD said "Tomorrow we can break the cycle and end 100 years of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. The recent polls show that 60% of people want an alternative to these two conservative parties. We hear it on the canvass more and more as we approach polling day. Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael look set to fall below a combined vote of 40%, which would be their lowest combined vote in the history of the state. There is real momentum now behind the idea of a government without Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
To the people seeking radical change we say - Another Ireland is Possible, and your votes tomorrow will be crucial to make this a reality.
The wealthy and the powerful always vote and they vote for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. But the people who need the change most often don’t vote because they think it's inevitable that we’ll just get the same old politics. But it’s clear now that there's a historic opportunity to break the cycle of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
So we say to working people and young people - your votes can ignite this election. You have the power to elect a left government that will represent the interests of workers, young people and the vulnerable in our society - a government that will break with the market and use the vast resources in our country to meet the needs of the many.
We are disappointed that Sinn Féin and others on the left have failed to reject the idea of coalition with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. If they had done so at the start of this campaign the momentum for change would be even stronger today. The reality is that there cannot and will not be a left government without People Before Profit and others on the left.
While other parties dither and flip flop, People Before Profit-Solidarity have been and will continue to be implacably opposed to Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, always and everywhere.
So, the best way to ensure that the 100 year rule of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael ends this weekend is to vote for People Before Profit-Solidarity No. 1 and transfer to others on the left who reject coalition with those two parties of the wealthy and the powerful. After that people should use their discretion to transfer to other left candidates they think will oppose Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael."
