Gerry Carroll selected as People Before Profit Candidate for Assembly Elections

Gerry Carroll has been selected as the People Before Profit Candidate for the Assembly Elections on May 5th. Gerry has lived in West Belfast his whole life. He was elected and re elected as President of Jordanstown Student Union in 2008 and 2009 and has been at the forefront of campaigning to defend education. Today he is an active Trade Unionist with Unite and is currently heavily involved the campaign against the cuts. Most recently he has organised a series of solidarity protests with the people of Egypt and Libya as they rise to fight for freedom.

Speaking of his selection as a People Before Profit candidate, Gerry Carroll said;

“West Belfast is crying out for an alternative. Whether it’s on the Falls or the Shankill, jobs are being lost, services are being cut and people are being trampled all over.

This May I want to offer people the chance to vote for something different, a radical alternative that puts people before profit. If elected to the Assembly, I pledge to vote against the cuts.

I will use my position as a platform to build opposition and be a clear principled anti sectarian alternative within the Assembly. Politicians are paid far too much and if elected I will only accept the average salary of a worker in Northern Ireland and donate the rest to campaigns and causes in the area."
