Eviction Ban Must Stay – Get Rid Of This Government

Eviction Ban Must Stay – Get Rid Of This Government

PROTEST AT THE DÁIL, 1 PM APRIL 1ST

The government has lifted a ban on evictions and many will be thrown on the streets between now and June.

They said they got legal advice from the Attorney General, Rossa Fanning. But he owns a rental property portfolio worth €1.5 million.

We have a heatless government that is doing nothing to solve the housing crisis or protect people from inflation.

Nearly 12,000 people in Ireland are currently designated as homeless. The situation is so bad that even homeless hostels are full.

Nobody should be fooled by the rhetoric that refugees are to blame. This government has caused the housing crisis by refusing to build social housing.

People Before Profit brought in a bill to extend the eviction ban. In a surprise move, it got past the second stage. But the government tried to prevent a vote before the eviction ban runs out.

However, on Wednesday there will be a vote on a Sinn Féin motion calling for the eviction ban to stay. Any TD who says they care about homelessness should vote for the motion. There is no point in Green TDs saying they are against lifting the ban – and then voting with the government.

The government is also withdrawing supports for energy bills – even though they are shockingly high. On April Fools Day tell them what you think. We want:

  • A rent freeze and a ban on evictions
  • Price controls on food and energy prices
  • A cap on mortgage interest -don’t let the banks suck us dry.
  • Wages that match the rise in prices.

Get to the Dáil on April 1st at 1 pm to show what you think of this rotten government.
