End 100 years of FF and FG — The Future Shouldn’t Look Like The Past

Councillor and Dublin North West general election candidate Conor Reddy today launched People Before Profit's Youth Manifesto — The Future Shouldn't Look Like the Past.

End 100 years of FF and FG — The Future Shouldn’t Look Like The Past

Conor is widely tipped as a close contender for a seat in Dublin North West. If elected, at 29 years of age he would be one of the youngest TDs in the Dáil.

Councillor Reddy said “For the entire history of the state young people have been forced to emigrate for a better life. The unbroken rule of Fianna Fáil and/or Fine Gael throughout the history of the state is the reason for this. People Before Profit is the only party that has clearly stated it will not vote to put them back into power. Other left parties should rule out coalition with FF and FG and offer young people a real alternative in this election and for the future. So, we urge young people to vote People Before Profit number 1 and transfer left to candidates and parties you think will rule out coalition with FF and FG.

Young people and students face an unprecedented cost of living crisis. The cost of essentials such as food, heating and housing have gone through the roof. Many are forced out of education or to emigrate. Nearly half a million you adults are stuck living with their parents.

The numbers emigrating this year were the highest since 2015. Almost 35,000 left and 7 out of 10 young people are considering emigration. This would be another lost generation.

Many of these are skilled in healthcare, education and construction. We need these people to solve the crises we face, but they are leaving because of the government’s policies.

People Before Profit would make Ireland a country for young people. We don't want the future to look like the past. Unlike other parties, we have not pandered to the racists and we oppose any attempts to scapegoat immigrants. We offer real solidarity to Palestine by calling for comprehensive sanctions on Israel and for the ending of the US military's use of Shannon airport.

We would address the crisis facing young people with a radical vision for real equality that puts young people before the interests of the super wealthy and show that another Ireland is possible.”
