“Culture of complacency” in Derry City Council says PBP’s Davy McAuley

People Before Profit Waterside candidate Davy McAuley yesterday hit out at a “culture of complacency” in Derry city council.

He was commenting on the failure of the city authorities to clear a site on a green area in Gobnascale where builder’s debris including rolls of razor wire has lain for weeks.

“A child who fell into this would be lacerated. Anybody could be scarred for life. The razor wire is like strings of razor blades all tangled up. Yet it’s still here in a beautiful stretch of land despite the pleas of local people,” said Mr. McAuley.

“Senior council officials seem to be deaf to the people, and some of the people’s representatives have got into the habit of thinking they can forget about an issue once they put out a press statement about it."

“This ugly and dangerous site will have to be cleared within a week. If it isn’t, we will encourage and help local people to have it cleared anyway and the bill presented to the council. Where is the environmental health department when they are urgently needed? And where is the public pressure which the current representatives a of the area should be putting on?”
