PBP MLA Carroll has called Conor Murphy’s Budget ‘an insult’ and called on other parties to reject it on the floor of the Stormont Assembly tomorrow. He said:
“Conor Murphy’s Stormont budget is an insult to healthcare workers who have persevered through this pandemic. Murphy has made no provision for a much needed longterm pay uplift, and could see many face a real time cut.
“It is an insult to communities who have already suffered greatly due to the Executive’s mismanagement of COVID. This budget could result in cuts to welfare advice services, despite a surge in unemployment and the lingering damage of Welfare Reform.
“This is an utter failure to meet the growing needs of a population emerging from a once in a generation crisis. Those who have been plunged into financial precarity need and deserve better. Unsurprisingly, anti-poverty campaigners are alarmed at the potential impact of this Budget and we join them in calling for opposition on the floor of Stormont tomorrow.
“We need to see a radical economic approach to tackling unemployment, poverty, and inequality. This budget fails on all three fronts and represents a continuation of Stormont austerity. The Finance Minister should be ashamed to present it, and other parties should join People Before Profit in opposing it.”
