People Before Profit call for government to initiate the four INMO demands for nurses and midwives
In support of International Day of the Nurse, People Before Profit are calling on the government to accept and implement the demands of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).
These demands are:
- 1. Pay all nurses the pay awards they won following the nurses strikes last year.
- 2. Pay parity for nurses and midwives with other health professionals
- 3. Increase the number of places for student nurses.
- 4. Increase the staffing levels of nurses and midwives across the health service
TD Richard Boyd Barrett said: “Today being International Nurses Day, we are calling on the government to accept and implement, immediately, the demands of the INMO around pay and staffing in our hospitals.
“The nurses and midwives, along with all front-line workers in this country, have demonstrated heroic service during this pandemic. We are calling on Simon Harris and the government to show these nurses and midwives that they are truly grateful for their monumental efforts by agreeing to the legitimate demands of their unions.
“Nurses needs safe staffing levels, pay parity, more student nurse places and crucially they should all be given the pay increase which they won following last year’s strike action. It is time the government recognised their wonderful service by giving them what they are owed and what they need.”
