QUB Palestine Assembly, a collective of students and staff, have organised a protest march and demonstration titled 'Shamrocks For Palestine', taking place on Saturday 15 March at 1pm.
People Before Profit activists will be support the march which will gather at the gates of Queens University and march to the US Consulate. Protesters will highlight American complicity in the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and the ongoing war crimes given political cover and funding by Trump's administration in the White House.
Queens University Belfast Palestine Assembly's press release says they are 'alarmed at the criminalisation of peaceful protest by students, both here in the north of Ireland and on US campuses. Three Queens University Belfsast students were arrested last year while attempting to unfurl a Palestine flag on the front lawn of the university, during a peaceful protest against the visit of Hilary Clinton.
'The group is likewise gravely concerned regarding the unlawful arrest and possible deportation of Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil for organising peaceful on-campus protests in response to the genocide.'
QUB Palestine Assembly organiser Seána Clarkin says, ' We are marching to show our opposition to Ireland's continued normalisation of American imperialism on St Patrick’s Day, as Irish politicians travel to the White House to prostrate themselves before a war criminal. We also want to show our solidarity with American university students who are facing suppression and arrests for their Palestine activism, and also to our 3 students here at home who were arrested during a protest outside QUB in November last year.'
People Before Profit shares these views and encourages everyone who supports action to end apartheid and oppression to join the march at 1 tomorrow.
