In Germany, every passenger who lands at an airport gets a free Covid-19 test. In Ireland, new government rules mean that you must go to the private sector and pay about €200.
The government says that it will be ‘ramping up the testing programme’. But when you look at the detail, you find that they will increase the number of tests from 150 to 300 a day.
Yet thousands still pass through Dublin airport and, even with a drop off, this Christmas numbers are set to increase.
We need proper investment in testing – run by a public not-for-profit body. Covid-19 should not be used by private business for profit.
